Educación Cívica
Educación Cívica is a series of sculptural objects made through the intervention of History books of some Latin American countries, to which are inserted, by different means, documents of intelligence agencies declassified by the USA. The SECRET condition of this documentation is often translated, many times, into censorship through redactions that, paradoxically, allow the information to be made public.
The archives dialogue with the “Official Histories” in the chapters where they should be considered as documents or sources of consultation, for the narration of these facts.
Materially, through surgical tools and manual tools of the trade, books, and documents are subjected to material forcing such as opening, twisting, or folding, which forces an objectual and conceptual dialogue between one and the other.
The series poses a reflection on the writing of history, the notion of sovereignty of countries and the need to visualize our history as a history of “contaminations” of internal and external powers that produce our experiences, not only in the past but also in contemporary times.
