The No-History
This installation comprises the edition of a thousand books generated from the review of declassified files by the U.S. government on the Southern Cone countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay. This region of South America has a long history of associations, one of the most traumatic being the operations that these states carried out to persecute, arrest, torture and disappear people during their dictatorial governments. Among others, one of the most famous is known as Operation Condor. Subsequently, with the recovery of democratic governments, these same countries founded MERCOSUR (Southern Common Market), of which all are members and Chile is an associate country.
The files gathered in these two volumes were selected from the site
All of them reveal to what extent the borders of these countries were non- existent during the respective dictatorial periods; how the states were in collusion among themselves and with the United States to control the speeches opposing the regimes and the logic of the North American policy.
La No-Historia is the title of the installation presented at the 8th MERCOSUR Biennial that reveals through documents and its exhibition device how our national histories have not yet begun to be narrated with the veracity of the facts that occurred. Both the notion of sovereignty and autonomy of the countries involved, as well as the image of the border, are questioned.
