Counter-Cartographies of Resistance
Winner of the S+T+ARTS Prize Buen-TEK 2026, S+T+ARTS initiative of the European Commission, IMPAKT Festival, Utrecht, the Netherlands.

Counter-Cartographies of Resistance was recognised with the S+T+ARTS Prize Buen-TEK 2026, within the framework of the European Commission’s S+T+ARTS initiative, and is presented at IMPAKT Festival, the annual media arts festival held in Utrecht, the Netherlands, founded in 1988. In its 2026 edition, the festival marks 38 yearsof exploring the relationships between art, technology, society, and contemporary culture.

The work is an immersive installation bringing together contemporary art, ancestral knowledge, and social justice. Drawing on Suma Qamaña (Buen Vivir / Good Living), the Quipu recording system, and a message of repair from Mapuche machi Millaray Melinao, it proposes a counter-cartography that transforms the map into a tool for visibility, memory, and healing.

More than a representation of territory, Counter-Cartographies of Resistance proposes another way of relating to land, memory, and technology. The installation creates a symbolic bridge between the North and South of the continent, linking times, territories, and forms of knowledge shaped by other paradigms.
