Video Trauma ocular – Museo Reina Sofía
Within the framework of Resistance. A Selection of South American Video—an exhibition organized with BIENALSUR and presented at the Museo Reina Sofía Cinema during the summer of 2025—Voluspa Jarpa screens the video Ocular Trauma. The exhibition, curated by Diana Wechsler, brings together audiovisual works that examine resistance as both a political and an aesthetic act, where the radicality of language is articulated through the radicality of form.
Ocular Trauma gathers the testimonies of eleven young people who were shot in the eyes as a result of police violence, placing repression at the exact point where history becomes body. The work approaches the gaze as a contested territory: what is wounded is not only vision, but the ability to look and to be seen—to bear witness and to inscribe a collective experience in public space. Through listening and editing, the video constructs a recent memory that insists on remaining, turning narration into an act of resistance against attempts at silencing.
